Chewbeads giveaway!

A few weeks back I blogged about how I had discovered this fantastic new mommy jewelry called Chewbeads.  I currently have one necklace and one bracelet that my little Lucy Lou goes nuts over (see previous post for the most adorable photo of my baby girl going to town on the bracelet).  Needless to say, I am a sucker for statement jewelry, and this line of baby friendly products fulfills my need for bold accessories.  Not only do they make me feel like my old self, they also give the teething monster a chance to chew to her hearts content and mommy can throw it in the dishwasher afterwards! How cool is that?

Okay so now on to the contest. Here is the booty that is up for grabs: Chewbeads Hudson necklace in Deep Sea Blue. Gorgeous, non?

Happy Heineys

I'm going to take a quick break from my Favorite Things series to do another diaper review from my "fluff stash." For those of you new to the cloth diapering world, fluff is a term for diaper and or diapering goody.  I like the term diap personally, but fluff is cute too.  Anyways, back to the diap at hand! I found this brand relatively early on in my cloth diapering journey and fell in love with the hot pink color. At that time, I was just going to stick with Aplix (velcro) closures because I felt like they were a lot more user friendly.  I turned out they sold the pocket in cow print as well, and if any of you know me, you know I like me some cow print every now and again. You can take the girl out of Texas to be a diplomats wife, but you can't take the Texas out of the girl I guess :)

I also have an owl print version of this which is super cute. Lucy was just sporting it for her afternoon siesta.

I love those chunky little thighs.

Okay, now I know many of you might be slightly curious as to what the inside of a dirty cloth diaper looks like. Now this is only a pee diaper, but I want you to see if you can tell the difference between a clean one and a dirty one. Which one is dirty?

Diaper A
or
Diaper B?
Diaper A you say, eh? How did you guess? What tipped you off? Was it the fact that it had the owl print just previously shown on my daughter's cute baby bum? Or was it the cloth wipe crinkled up at the top? Or the fact that it wasn't featured on my lovely white blanket that I normally use for all my Diaper Chic posts? Well, whatever triggered your keen, Sherlock Holmesque detective skills to Diaper A, pat yourself on the back. As you can see, the inside really doesn't look dirty to the naked eye.  The inside doesn't stain, and believe you me, this diaper has seen some poopspolosions. I'm talking all kinds of green pasty goodness, with a stench so strong that only a mother could change it without thinking, why, why did I decide to make something that does something this horrid?

Enough about poop, let's talk about the pluses and minuses of the Happy Heineys One Size Pocket Diaper.

Pluses

-They are sized bigger than some other brands which is great if you have a taller baby like I do. My little lump of lovable goodness is still on the smallest rise, and for her, that's not the case with some of her other diaps.
-I've used them as a pretty reliable night time diaper and traveling diaper. This is one of my go-to diaps when I know I won't be able to change her for awhile. The inside is fleece and the inserts that go with them are microterry which wick away moisture and keep your baby feeling dry longer.
-The snap closures are really easy to snap and seem like they will last through several babies!
-They have a lot of great prints for boys and girls.  I already have my eye on the white diap with skulls since I have a feeling she'll be going through a punk phase once she starts walking.

Minuses

-The Aplix or Hook and Loop or Velcro (pick your poison) do not seem to last as well as the other major diaper brands, meaning my hot pink diaper statement probably won't be able to last more than one baby.  I guess when and if we have a little garcon, he won't be able to sport this one with a "Real Men Wear Pink" onesie.

I can't think of any other real minuses to these diaps.  I love the three that I have and I saw on their website they have a newborn option as well as one for your  preemie! Can you say baby #2?!

My favorite things-Part II-Teething Jewerly!

Since my little one was born, I have lamented the fact that I can't wear any of my cute necklaces. I am a sucker for a statement necklace, and being a mommy of an infant, I thought I would have to give that up. Well, after some poking around on the Internet, I found what might be the greatest invention since cloth diaps, teething jewelry! This might just be one of the smartest and most chic ways to carry around teething toys ever. All of the jewelry is made of a 100% silicone, no BPA, lead, or other nasty stuff we wouldn't want near our babies mouths.  I decided to get an array of accessories since my current necklaces and bracelets are out of commission for the foreseeable future. Considering the fact that I might have teething babies for several years to come, I will probably add to my stash, for the babies of course....

1. Teething Bling-First off I got a simple black necklace that you tie in the back. I think you can find this brand in your local cloth diapering store. I had seen this previously at such an establishment and since my little drool monster has started chewing on everything in sight, my jaw being the preference at the moment, I decided it was time to purchase one and see if it would work.

In terms of ease of use, I find that having to tie and untie the necklace seems a little problematic since usually I have about 5 seconds to get ready every morning. However, washing is a sinch for all of these products because you just throw them in the dishwasher and voila, germ free and ready for another day fighting teething pain and making mommy look cute!

2. Chewbeads Cornelia bracelet in Punchy Pink-I personally cannot wait until summer to wear this little number! Hot pink and Navy are my go to colors for summer, so I can foresee a lot of use out of this bracelet. Lucy has already decided she loves it, so I wear it around the house so I'm always ready for a chew attack.

3. Chewbeads Hudson necklace in Turquoise-I havent yet recieved this one in the mail yet, but I can't wait till it gets here! I love how each "stone" looks like a freshwater pearl or a smooth river stone. I'm sure I'm going to get a lot of wear out of this one too as turquoise goes well with Navy.

4. Oh Plah Teething Bracelet in Clover Green-I don't know if you've noticed a patter here, but all my jewlery choices, except the first one have been summer geared in color and pair well with navy blue. I'm so predictable. This is the last one that I'm waiting on to arrive and I really hope the green is as vibrant as it looks in the photo. I absoluetly LOVE this color green because it goes so well with navy (I know, I know...) and hot pink. Plus, the cuff is bendy and the added design gives more stimulation to the child. Ahhh, I'm glad that being a mommy doesn't mean I have to compromise on my jewlery choices. And they are dishwasher safe to boot?! Can you say easy button?

My favorite things-Part I

In the course of starting this new journey as a mommy who is not willing to compromise fashion for function, I've come across several things that I just love and can't live without. Over the next couple of posts, I'm going to share some of my favorite finds on Etsy, Amazon, and various stores and websites. Most of these accessories will be cloth diaper related, but some will be toys, baby products, carriers, strollers, and some funky jewelry that I found. One of the greatest pleasures I have in life is fashion, and I'm glad that being an unexpectedly hippy mom hasn't made me compromise.

So, now on to one of my newest and most favorite cloth diapering accessories. Can you guess what it is? Here's a pic:

If you guessed lunching ladies handbag, close but no cigar. This pink explosion of deliciousness is my new wipes case! Chic non? I have it loaded up with my new cloth wipes as you can see if in the following photo.

This new addition to my diaper bag was designed and handmade by Charla of SewSweetAccessories on Etsy. I have been a huge of fan of Etsy after seeing some adorable newborn hats that one of my former colleagues had bought for her son. Since then, I've found tons of great handmade cloth diapering accessories and helped support working moms, which is a win win in my book. This wipes case just blew me away with how fashionable and functional it was. My mom couldn't believe it was a wipes case when I showed her a few weekends ago. Not only does it store your wipes, but it looks exactly like a chic little clutch! I've already got my eye on this little number, since a lot of my mommy friends are wild about owls right now. Can you say baby shower gifts? I mean, how many moms would love having one of these custom wipes cases in their diaper bags? Tres adorable AND functional.

I haven't tried putting my wipes solution in the case with the wipes, but I think I'm not going to, because I wouldn't want it to stain the fabric. I'm going to be on the lookout for a bottle to hold my homemade solution that goes with this little number. All in all, I'm crazy about this new case and I hope all the other mommies out there who are considering cloth wipes give it a chance after seeing how adorable and easy they can be! Cloth diapering can and should be chic.
